Abstract

An analytical method for impact on fibre reinforced plastics (FRP) is developed to study the effect of panel dimensions and projectile diameter on ballistic limit velocity. The analysis has been carried out in two stages; rupture failure and local failure by dominated waves. For this purpose a simple analytical model for local deformation failure and critical shear failure has been used to predict perforation in FRP laminates. Experimental data are in good agreement with results of proposed analytical model. Consequently geometrical effects of different parameters like panel dimensions and projectile diameter on ballistic velocity have been studied. Finally it was shown that results of analytical data are in good agreement with LS-DYNA simulation.
