Abstract
A low pressure plasma spray process (LPPS) has been used to make a Ti-Ni alloy coating on bronze. This paper reports on studies of the structure and mechanical properties of the Ti-Ni coating, and also discusses the behaviour of the coating during cavitation erosion by means of X-ray diffraction, electron microprobe, microhardness testing and scanning electron microscopy. The cavitation erosion tests were carried out using a magnetostrictive oscillator operating at 19 kHz in distilled water. The investigation shows that the Ti-Ni coating can improve the cavitation erosion resistance of bronze.
