Abstract

Under the auspices of the U.S. Office of Education, a project which tested the audio-tutorial method of teaching for a course in basic reference, was completed at the University of Arizona in 1976. The purpose of this project was to determine, whether students taught using the audio-tutorial method would differ significantly in either learning ability and/or attitude, from students in a traditional lecture course. Continued experimentation, evaluation, and revision of the audio-tutorial program is currently on-going at the University's Graduate Library School. This paper reports the results of the study undertaken with the grant project, to assess current utilization of the A-T system, and to suggest directions for future research and development.
