Abstract
The circular polarization of 15 primary γ-rays from the capture of polarized thermal neutrons in 59Co has been measured. Six spins have been assigned. The results are discussed in terms of single-particle states with superimposed proton core excitations. A possible connection between the neutron capture mechanism and the primary capture γ-ray spectrum is pointed out.
