Abstract
Differential cross sections have been measured for the elastic scattering, and inelastic scattering to all excited states below 11 MeV excitation, of 135 MeV protons from 13C. Two different sets of optical model parameters, and two different forms of the nucleon-nucleon effective interaction were used in distorted-wave analyses of the data. It is suggested that the 8.86 and 11.08 MeV ( 1 2 −) states, neither of which is fitted by this form of analysis, may be predominantly formed by coupling a Op 1 2 neutron to the 7.66 MeV state of 12C.
