Abstract

This paper presents a solution to the problem of displacement fields in a plane stress model during the propagation of a stress wave using double exposure speckle photography and the finite element method. Double exposure speckle photography at different time delays was recorded utilizing a double-pulse ruby laser and the reflective speckle interferometry method. The instantaneous loading after impact was recorded experimentally. By setting this load-time relation as the force boundary condition, the displacement was calculated using the finite element method.
