Abstract

After having made a study of children's needs in spelling, the writer was aware of the need for teachers to know the nature of children's writings and the factors influencing their written composi tions. The interest was in finding the cause for the seeming need to escape for some children when they were asked to write the language lesson: The tendency to delay,to move about, and to engage in conversation indicated a need for release from re straints that were not obvious within the situation.
