Abstract

Decay schemes for the states in 19F between 2 MeV and 5 MeV above the ground state were determined by particle γ-ray coincidence studies. The particle γ-ray angular correlation method of Litherland and Ferguson was used to gain information upon the spin values and the γ-ray mixing ratio of these states which excited by the reaction 19F(p, p′) 19F ∗ using incident bombarding energies in the range 7.5–8.5 MeV. The spin of the 2.79 MeV level was rigorously limited to the values 9 2 , 5 2 . States at 3.91 and 4.57 MeV were established as 3 2 , a model dependent argument being presented to assign negative and positive parities, respectively. Limitations were imposed upon the spins of the states at 4.00, 4.04, 4.39 and 4.70 MeV and upon the value of the mixing ratio in the transitions 2.79 MeV → 0.198 MeV, 4.39 MeV → 0.198 MeV. The results are compared to the predictions of the shell model and a unified model.
