Abstract

Hydroxyapatite, fluorapatite, and chlorapatite materials were synthesized and their sintering characteristics were studied. The compressive strength of the apatites was determined and is given as a function of density. Scanning electron micrographs of the typical material structure are given. The degradation of strength of the hydroxyapatite after an extended acid soak also is reported.
