Abstract

Segregation and mixing of large particles (≈4 mm) of different density are studied. An experimental technique is developed based upon division of the bed into slices before the gas supply is turned off. Three binary systems (polyethylene, alumina and glass) have been studied, varying the mixture composition and the gas velocity. Concentration and voidage profiles along the bed height are measured. Results are described according to the Gibilaro—Rowe model.
