Abstract

There have been very few published studies contrasting attitudes of two racial groups concerning general problem presented by their relationship. Gwendolyn Bryant' presents race problem as an equation the majority group plus negative attitudes equal antagonism toward minority If this equation is broken down and reconstructed, it becomes minority groups plus negative attitudes equal antagonism toward majority groups. This seems to be crux of situation. Thus, there is a need for study of attitudes of both groups where there is a problem. Bryant2 found white group apparently more tolerant than Negro group. Thomas Droba3 in studying effect of education on Negro attitudes found that after completing a course in sociology, Negro students were more favorable toward whites than white students were toward Negro. Davis4 studying attitudes of Fisk University freshmen found that Negro had attitudes which were unfavorable to his own
