Abstract

A detailed investigation into the prevalence of drug misuse in the County of Nottinghamshire in 1984 is reported. The mean age of all abusers in the county was found to be 28.67 years, hallucinogen users being significantly younger. The majority of misusers were found to be using a drug in a single category. The male to female ratio was 3.35:1. The highest prevalence rate was found in the 30–34 year old age group. Most drug abusers (73%) identified in the study were using the opiate group of drugs.
