Abstract

China is one of the countries with a large aging population in the world. As the demand for nursing care for the elderly increases, research on methods, services, and techniques for nursing care for the elderly is vital. The purpose of this study is to investigate the acceptance level of smart technology and preferred type of nursing care of pre-elderly in China for Aging-In-Place. An online survey was conducted, and data were collected from a total of 303 pre-elderly in 45~59 years old in Beijing, China. Participants’ preferred type of nursing care, currently used smart technology and products, and the acceptance level of 10 types of smart technologies, in the area of health, safety, entertainment and convenience, were examined using questionnaires from Technology Acceptance Model. The results show that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of the 10 types of smart technologies had a positive effect on the behavioral intentions to use them. By contrast, performance risk, security risk, and financial risk of smart technology showed different patterns by technology but generally had a negative effect on behavioral intentions of use. The results will be useful as reference for a new model of Chinese home nursing in the future.
