Abstract

Today, the opportunity to learn the process of making and creating Korean costumes is not common. Hanbok is mainly worn as a robe and limits of wearing these costumes can be due to its inconvenience and difficulty to approach. This study mainly analyzes dimensions of Hanbok and methods of calculation in 20 ‘Hanbok construction’ books which were widely used in the current university lectures or the actual making. Also, make twelve patterns and conduct a dress evaluation of Jeogori. As a result, it has caused confusions in building Hanbok because of different Jeogori sizes and measurements. The methods of calculation were not unified as well. Designing a system of an adult women’s Jeogori that takes advantage of patterns from each textbooks and complements the disadvantages based on the analysis of data from the dress evaluation and comparison of materials. The purpose of the study is to establish awareness of the traditional korean costume ‘Hanbok’ and its beauty. A Jeogori pattern and a basic body size, the ways to take measurements, and a standardized method of calculation should be set up for smooth creating and applying the design of Jeogori for the people who produce the Korean costume. This study could be a great help to make a wearable and aesthetic Jeogori reflecting the someone’s body type and characters in real research and education.
