Abstract

In fact, many wind power stations have been ineffectively exploited in isolated regions. This paper proposes a method and an algorithm in order to determine the most suitable wind power station (WPS) that will be operated with an existent diesel power station (DPS) in an isolated region. This algorithm is built on the basis of an effective operation method which corresponds to the constraint conditions of operation. Then, the number and type of wind turbines are determined for the purpose of exploiting maximum wind energy at a low capital cost. Finally, the algorithm is tested with isolated grid on Phu Quy Island. Therefore, this algorithm is recommended to apply as a consultative program for the selection of a wind power station in similar isolated regions.
