Abstract

AIM: To study the correlation in uterine artery impedance on colour Doppler during mid luteal phase with the number of recurrent spontaneous abortions. METHODOLOGY: It is a study conducted in SMS Medical College, Jaipur. The study subjects were divided into cases (n=55) included women with two or more abortions and controls (n=55) included parous women with no abortion. The cases were further divided into groups depending on the number of abortions. All women underwent uterine artery colour Doppler during mid luteal phase( 6-8 days after ovulation) of an unstimulated cycle. RESULTS: 23 cases had 2 spontaneous abortions with mPI 2.16±0.09, mRI 0.81±0.02 and m S/D 6.46±1.18. There are 15 cases with three spontaneous abortions with mPI 2.45±0.15, mRI 0.85±0.05 and mS/D 6.60±0.59. 12 cases with 4 spontaneous abortions showed mPI 2.48±0.13, mRI 0.85±0.05,mS/D 6.56±0.91.A total of 5 cases with spontaneous abortions showed increased impedance with mPI of 2.59±0.19, mRI 0.86±0.02, mS/D 7.32±0.85. CONCLUSIONS: The uterine artery resistance increases with the increase in number of abortions hence indicating poor uterine receptivity. The uterine artery Doppler provides an easily accessible and non invasive tool for assessment of uterine receptivity in women with recurrent pregnancy loss.
