Abstract

The meshed topology in IEEE 802.16 standard provides high reliability, effective market coverage, and scalability, as well as low upfront investments. The efficient scheme of location management in such network circumstances should practically be considered nowadays. In this paper, we analyze theoretically the cost and delay of traditional location management schemes in wireless mesh networks and compare it with that of typical cellular networks and further, make a discussion for the major factors influencing the system performance of location management. The result shows that traditional schemes are much inefficient in WiMAX mesh networks.
