Abstract

Using a mouse protection test, each of 6 inactivated vaccines prepared from different strains of Mycoplasma mycoides var. mycoides and inoculated intravenously immunised mice strongly against not only the homologous strain but also the 5 heterologous strains. Antigenic stimulation with M. mycoides var. mycoides produced in mice antibody capable of protecting them slightly but significantly against Mycoplasma mycoides var. capri and strongly against the homologous organism. M. mycoides var. capri stimulated antibody which, while strongly protective against challenge with the homologous organism, failed under the experimental conditions described to immunise mice significantly against M. mycoides var. mycoides.
