For years now, scholars have been calling for a more “critical consciousness” of how Euro-American translation theories are applied to East Asian translation studies (Wakabayashi 2012). Judy Wakabayashi suggests there is a need for empirical testing of western paradigms on Japanese translation research (Wakabayashi 2012, 34).
