Abstract
Mossbauer measurements have been carried out on TMMC (57Co) and CsNiF3(57Co). In TMMC (57Co) the Mossbauer spectrum has been measured down to 0.3 K. A strong temperature dependence of the quadrupole splitting below 4.2 K has been observed. Below the three‐dimensional transition point no magnetic hyperfine splitting was observed. This indicates either a cancellation of the Fermi contact field by the orbital internal field or a reduction of the sublattice magnetization by fast spin fluctuations as expected in one‐dimensional systems. Mossbauer measurement were also taken in CsNiF3(57Co) down to 1.4 K (TN = 2.61 K). In CsNiF3 the Ni ions are ferromagnetically coupled along the c‐axis. A magnetic hyperfine splitting in the 57Fe nucleus was observed well above TN indicating the presence of very strong spin correlations along the chains for nonsubstitutional 57Fe in CsNiF3. When the 57Fe is substitutional there was no h.f.magnetic splitting observed down to 1.3 K. Higher concentration of iron up to 10% in CsNiF...
