Abstract

The effects of grain refinement on microstructure and tensile properties of IN-713LC superalloy were investigated in this study. The results of pouring temperature control can accomplish grain refinement. A fine mircostructure with 65 μm in grain size can be obtained when the superheat temperature is dropped to 20 °C. By way of centrifugal casting, a fine-grain mircostructure test bar with 25 μm in size can be obtained and the carbide size can be refined to 1.28 μm. Yield strength in room temperature tensile test should increase along with the progress of grain refinement. In terms of ultimate strength and elongation, they should also increase along with the progress of grain refinement. However, perhaps due to the existence of many microporosities that cause an early fracture of the test bars, ultimate strength and elongation drop sharply when grains are refined to a size of 25 μm.
