Abstract

India hold 4th position in world trade ranking in terms of leather exports. It is one of the largest employer in India under skilled and semi-skilled category of workers and also largest foreign exchange earner. The study has been taken to figure the current industry scenario and its position vis-a-vis world trade industry. An in-depth study was undertaken to analyze and interpret the current export trend of Indian leather under various heads and sectors. Data were collected as per sector wise export to different EU. In light of the trend found from the data an analysis for preliminary screening was done. Countries like U.K, France import more of footwear over other countries, while Italy imports finished leathers sheets only. Screening model based on Macro and Micro indicators were taken into account to screen EU countries for analysis and therefore growth strategies were suggested keeping the Sectoral trend in mind.
