Abstract

Close to one-third of greenhouse gas emissions are contributed by buildings in the world. The increase in energy demand has worsened the energy crisis. Green buildings are strategically designed and constructed to enhance energy efficiency. However, the major challenge that green buildings face is in achieving the desired efficiency and in cutting down the overall negative impacts on the environment and humans. The technologies involved in the design of green buildings are evolving constantly to reduce these emissions, power consumption, and the cost. This paper discusses methods that aim to achieve energy efficiency in green buildings. The methods use IoT designs and linear model which integrate renewable and non-renewable energy sources to bring down the energy costs. The Building Energy Management Systems have also improved as they shift the focus to increased user engagement, monitoring, and control for energy management. The methods discussed also include networking and communication computing technologies that detect human occupancy. This collected data is essential and calls for proper systems to perform decision making to automate the energy management process.
