Abstract
The aim of this study was to clarify the risk factors for elder abuse in Japanese families, and so 3600 mail surveys and 78 home visits were conducted. People who had strong social affiliation tended to force the elderly to obey a caregiver's opinion. Three items were found to be the key predictors of elder abuse by logistic analysis: the elderly who wander due to senility, the caregiver's health problems and the caregiver's misunderstanding of the elder's conditions.
