Abstract

The aim of this study is to create a uniform for the Olympic team of South Korea, the host of the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Games, both in the form of a design as well as in life-sized pieces, which will utilize Korean images. In terms of the methodology, based on previous studies that utilized Korean images, as well as personal research on the Winter Olympics and its uniforms, a uniform for the Korean Winter Olympics team was created by utilizing shapes of Korean images in dangui, the colors and patterns of dancheong (traditional Korean paintwork), chokagbo(cloths of patchwork), and embroidery. 8 kinds of designs of Korean images for Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics were developed, which reflected the symbolic, functional, and aesthetic characteristics of uniforms, and of these, 3 uniforms were manufactured at full scale.〈Work 1〉was manufactured in the form of a down jacket for women with the application shapes and colors of dangui.〈Work 2〉was manufactured in a padded jacket with the application of 7 colors of dancheong. In order to make the dancheong colors look clearer and more beautiful, the design used a near-black color on the body. 〈Work 3〉was manufactured in the form of a down jumper for men through the application of the shapes and colors of chokagbo. Irregular faces and lines in which the sizes of faces gradually change were utilized, and in order to give a more refined sense, various demi-tints were used. For the symbolic characteristics of the uniform, the national flag of Korea and wappen were attached, and the emblem of Pyeongchang Winter Olympics was embroidered..
