Abstract

Online teacher plays a pivotal role in online education; this study explored the development of online teachers from psychological dimension. The mechanism of career adaptability, job insecurity, and work engagement of online teachers (N=299) was examined. The results indicated that career adaptability related positively to work engagement, negatively to job insecurity; job insecurity partially mediated the relationship between career adaptability and work engagement; moreover, employability moderated the relationship between career adaptability and job insecurity. When facing the same situation and work stress, online teachers who have higher level of career adaptability will be more engaged in work with lower level of job insecurity. This result provides a theoretical guidance for practicing and enhancing online teachers' work engagement.
