Abstract

Stainless steel 316L and Ti-6Al-4V are widely used in Medical field due to its corrosion resistance, good wear properties and mechanical properties. In this study, in order to increase the life span of the bio implants, bio active coating materials are applied on the stainless steel and Ti-6Al-4V. Hydroxyapatite (HAP) which is currently used as coating material, it is very expensive. Developing alternative bio active materials to replace Hydroxyapatite (HAP). Al2O3, egg shell and seashell powder which are easily available and economical and to find a better suitable material to replace HAP. These coating materials are used to protect the surface of the implant material and interface with biological system. Plasma spray method is used to coat on stainless steel 316L and Ti-6Al-4V. The coated specimens are examined for the quality of coating by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The SEM images are compared with the results of HAP coated Image to draw a better conclusion.
