Abstract

A numerical model incorporating the mechanisms of thermal coagulation and gravitational sedimentation was constructed to simulate the aging of the lead aerosol size distribution in the presence of a background aerosol. This model showed that coagulation principally removed lead particles from the smallest size ranges and added them to the range from 0.05 ≤ r ≤ 0.5 μm from which removal by coagulation occurred very slowly. Gravitational sedimentation was an important removal mechanism only for large particles ( r > 1 μm).
