Abstract

Complexes of cobalt(II) and nickel(II) perchlorates with 4-substituted acetanilides as ligands are reported for the first time. The stoichiometries of the complexes were found to be of the type [M(4−ZC 8H 8NO) 6] (ClO 4) 2 where M is the metal ion and Z = OCH 3, CH 3, H, Cl, Br, NO 2. The ligand-metal bond is assigned through the carbonyl oxygen on the basis of infrared spectral shifts upon complexation. The visible spectra and ligand field parameters of the complexes are also reported and discussed.
