Abstract
Starting from the structural properties of liquid water and making use of the known bond lengths and orientations of the hydrogen-bonded water molecules, models for the water-lecithin and the water-lecithin-cholesterol systems have been derived. The models are in good agreement with the known properties of the basic cell membrane.
