Abstract
The door hinges for automobiles are used to hold the door in a predefined axis during closing and opening operation. Apart from that, the door hinges are also important in automobiles as it holds the door in position during car accidents. The hinge itself is the combination of a pin, bushing, male and female hinge that will form an operating system for automotive doors. The purpose of this paper is to improve the built in stopper design of a stamped hinge assembly to comply with the OEM opening strength test requirement. The design of the door hinge will be developed using CATIA V5. The Hypermesh software will then be used to create a mesh and boundary conditions on the designed parts. Structural analysis will be carried out using ANSYS. In order to validate the results of FEA, an actual test will be carried out on stamped hinges using a test rig specified in the testing requirement. Based on the results further optimization of the built in hinge stopper will be carried out to increase the door hinge assembly performance.
