Abstract

In the present paper the design and implementation of a simulator for microprogrammed architecture are described. A high degree of flexibility is obtained by means of a highly hierarchical structure of software and an easy-to-modify table-driven driven system description. In particular the modelling of a microprogrammed machine is structured by means of two data sets, containing both the description of microcode (MDDS data set) and the hardware routines (SRDS data set). Moreover particular care has been devoted to user-simulator interface via a proper command language. The use of the simulator in the development of a micro-programmable machine (based on Am 2900 bit-slice series) is described.
