Abstract
I describe an unusual fountain that produces a jet using the siphon principle. Fountainshave always attracted and fascinated people from the time of the ancient Greeks to thepresent day, and during this period there have been several ways in which fountainshave operated based on different laws of physics. The fountain that I describebelow is a siphon fountain and the principle on which it works dates back to theend of the 18th century and may be attributable to the French nobleman theMarquis of Mannoury D’Ectot (1777–1822) (Comi 1995 Giornale di Fisica 36 (1)).
