Abstract

AbstractIn order to model, with finite elements, the process of fracture in a fibre reinforced composite material a rod type element with strain softening in the form of a negative extensional stiffness is proposed. The acceptability, in a structural context, of such negative stiffness is examined and the performance of the element in modelling the fracture of fibre reinforced cement compact tension specimens is compared with experimental results.
