Abstract

A stochastic model is reported for the rolling motion due to wind gusts having a non-uniform Poisson distribution and a constant amplitude. This paper is an improvement on a previous one where the external exciting term due to wind was au niform Poisson process. The statistics of the rolling motion amplitude process which is non-stationary are obtained and used for deriving a majorizing function for the probability of capsizing. The resulting inequality is used for a small cargo ship.
