Abstract

The movement of chemicals in the soil media is modelled by a stochastic diffusion process with constant infinitesimal drift and variance (i.e. a Brownian motion with drift). The first hitting time distribution of this diffusion process is used to give a statistical estimation of the parameters of the Brownian motion. Statistical tests for comparing leaching data from several soil columns are given.
