Abstract
The last stage of the fission process has been studied on the basis of a statistical model. Two fundamental hypotheses are made: (i) the internal degrees corresponding to the fragment nuclear structure are in conditions of statistical equilibrium and (ii) the freedom degrees related to the fragment motion at the scission point are not in statistical equilibrium with the internal degrees. The proposed statistical model reproduces the general properties of the excitation energies of the fission fragments in actinide fission.
