Abstract

A novel star identification algorithm based on geometric verification is presented in this paper to solve Lost-In-Space problem. Supposing the query star map matches with one in star pattern database and then verify its similarity is the main idea. The similarity is described by the proportion of correctly matched stars, which largely eliminates the effects of the number of stars in field of view. Experimental results indicate that the presented algorithm is robust to false stars and missing stars, the identification rate is 83.6% with ten false stars and 98.4% with ten missing stars respectively.
