Abstract

Information is given about the technological and mechanical characteristics of a new austenitic stainless steel, mark EP-229 (Kh 17G21N15T), which possesses a relatively high thermal neutron capture cross section. Its stability against general and intergranular corrosion in a steam medium is discussed, as well as the stability of the structure when maintained for long periods at elevated temperatures. The new steel can be used instead of nickel and type Kh 18N10T steel in certain components of nuclear reactors.
