Abstract

Catholic secondary and post-secondary educational institutions, particularly in North America, have in recent decades faced dramatic social and cultural changes that have challenged the role of their missions and identities. These changes have significantly affected students, faculty, staff, alumni, and particularly the religious and clergy who embody the tradition and charism of the mission. This paper examines the impact of the changes and considers how reflection on some long-recognized principles of Catholic education may inspire additional innovative and beneficial responses to these challenges.
