Abstract

This paper describes an interface and software for recording and displaying speech waveforms. Speech is sampled at approximately 10 kHz using an eight bit successive approximation ADC. Utterances of up to 1·024 s duration may be recorded and displayed. The interface is compatible with the IBM PC bus and the software was written in Turbo PASCAL and 8086/8088 assembly language. The interface between Turbo PASCAL and assembly language programs is described, and details are given on the use of hardware interrupts with Turbo PASCAL. Program algorithms and a circuit diagram are included.
