The radial velocity variation and its implications. McCarthy, J. K. ; Ramsey, L. W. Abstract The authors present observations of the radial velocity behavior of the peculiar, rapidly rotating late-type giant FK Comae. Observations of the Na D lines in FK Comae and several well-studied radial velocity standards were obtained on 15 nights during late winter and spring 1982. Using cross-correlation techniques to search for variations against the standards, the authors set an upper limit of 5 km s-1. The implications of this limit on models for FK Comae extant in the literature are discussed in detail, with the conclusion that models requiring accretion from a binary companion are inconsistent with the current data.
