Abstract

Summary A new spectroseopic (ATR) approach is suggested for investigating the state of water molecules in biological membranes under dehydratation and rewatering conditions. It is shown that the experimental systems water-thylakoid membranes, water-thylakoids-sucrose and water-thylakoidsproline differ in the extent of hydrogen bonding and water penetration rates. The method and devices are described.
