Abstract

Recently, our partner journal Archives of Toxicology published a special issue addressing the key questions in nanotoxicology (Weiss and Diabate, 2011). The number of commercially available nanomaterials is rapidly growing. Thus, one aspect of nanotoxicology is the unintended exposure to nanomaterials. Pharmaceutical nanoproducts have been introduced for diagnostics, drug delivery or cancer treatment, and scientists in the field of toxicology are expected to identify and prevent side effects arising from these uses. To provide our readers with an overview of the latest topics in the field of nanotoxicology, we summarize the key messages of the recent special issue (Table 1).
