Abstract

A decision support system has been developed for the engine operations of the Ford Motor Company to enable sourcing of engines from the various engine manufacturing plants to several car assembly plants in the most economical manner while taking into account the prevailing constraints. The cost elements that should he considered in the sourcing decision are presented. The model which results in a minimum total cost situation is described. The application areas of the decision support system are also discussed.
