Abstract
In any organization municipal water is received in an underground reservoir and maintained as dead storage for fighting fire in any emergency. Where such a facility does not exist water is drawn from nearby pond, khal, beel, etc. as may be available to fight fire. Rapid urbanizations led to filling up and encroachment of water bodies. Due to shrinking water bodies fire fighters had been battling water scarcity to douse fire. There is also no fire fighting system (or fire water main) with fire hydrants along the city streets. This depicts the current scenario. In a situation like this, a need has been felt to search for a solution to fight fire. Harvesting rainwater and storing the same in underground reservoirs in various strategic parts of the city & suburbs may be one of the possible solutions to fight fire and it may help the fire department in massive way to douse fire. Even small housing societies having four storied buildings of height less than 15 m may derive highest benefit for its residents by harvesting rainwater and storing the same in underground RCC tanks for fighting fire and need not to worry how to cope in the event of fire.
