Abstract

The electrostatic potential profile and charge distribution in a dielectric plane permselective membrane having an intrinsic surface charge have been calculated in different situations. In particular, two boundary conditions have been considered: • an ionic solution with excess of a supporting electrolyte, besides the penetrating ion, on one side of the membrane and a metallic electrode on the other side; • the same as (a) on one side but with a second solution on the other side. Some numerical results referring to a plausible range of values for the physical parameters of the problem are reported and discussed.
