Abstract

A natural extension of the `Gaussian' model of an imperfect gas permits an exact description of such a gas in a vessel. The conclusion of a former paper that the virial curve extends smoothly to infinite density is confirmed, but it is shown that this fact does not rule out the possibility of a phase transition. A preliminary study suggests that this model would have a transition to an ordered arrangement of molecules, similar to that of the rigid sphere model. Although continuous, this model shares several analytic properties with models of `lattice' type.
