Abstract

The performance of sodium-selective electrode based on the ligand methyl p-t-butylcalix[4]aryl acetate, one of a new series of ionophores, is described. The selectivity pattern with respect to clinically common cations is better than those of some currently available sodium-selective ionophores. Near-Nernstian response is obtained in the range 10 −1−10 −4 M. Response times are typically around 3 s and membrane resistances are of the order of 10 6Ω.
