Abstract

The present study aims at investigating slogans used by protestors during the demonstrations in Egypt and Syria from a sociolinguistic perspective. The collected data of the study comprised hundreds of slogans used by protestors in these two Arab states. These slogans were collected from different social media sources (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, national and international TV terrestrial and satellite channels, radio and newspapers). The study showed the linguistic functions and structure of the slogans, the linguistic aesthetic features of the slogans, and the social characteristics of them.
